Kick-start your child’s reading ability by learning phonemes. Improve pronunciation, phonological awareness, and reading speed and accuracy. Lessons are paired with our other courses to reinforce learning.

Level 1: Building Blocks of Sound
- Introduces emergent readers to the foundational skills necessary for decoding words.
- Begin by exploring the alphabet and learning the sounds associated with each letter.
– includes short vowel sounds and basic consonants
– develops phonemic awareness
– the ability to hear and manipulate individual sounds (phonemes) in spoken words.
Activities include rhyming games, identifying beginning and ending sounds, and segmenting simple words into their individual phonemes. This level lays the groundwork for blending sounds together to read CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words like “cat”; “dog”; “sun”.
Level 2: Bigger Blocks
- Begin to explore consonant blends (like “bl”; “st” “tr” and digraphs (two letters that make one sound, such as “sh”; “ch”; and “th”)
- Learn long vowel sounds and the silent “e” rule.
- Focuses on decoding more complex words, including CCVC (consonant-consonant-vowel- consonant) words like “stop” and “trip” and CVC words like “make” and “bike”.
- Begin to work with simple sight words, which are high-frequency words that are learned by memorization
- Strengthens decoding skills and prepares students for reading simple sentences and stories.
Level 3: Mastering Multisyllabic Words
- Challenges students to apply their phonics skills to longer, multisyllabic words
- Learn about vowel digraphs (like “oa” “ee” and “ai”), diphthongs (vowel blends like “oi” and “ow”), and r-controlled vowels (like “ar”; “or” and “ir”)
- Practice breaking down multisyllabic words into syllables to facilitate decoding
- Emphasizes fluency and accuracy in reading, as well as expanding vocabulary and comprehension skills
- Begin to read more complex texts and develop strategies for tackling unfamiliar words
- Prepares students for the challenges of independent reading and sets them on the path to lifelong literacy.
